The Protagonist Analyst has a passion for understanding the deeply held beliefs -- the narratives -- that drive critical issues and unleashing the power of big data to drive strategic decisions. The Analyst is at the forefront of our Narrative Analytics offering, finding and isolating the online media conversations that matter and curating powerful datasets that will drive success for our customers. The Analyst is deeply data-savvy, has outstanding analytical skills, and is creative and enthusiastic about using technology, data, and the power of narratives to solve complex problems. Reporting to the Director of Customer Solutions, the Analyst collaborates with colleagues across Protagonist and with current and prospective customers.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Own our analytic approach to data, and collaborate closely with teammates to deliver Narrative Analytics to our customers
  • Work with a range of content vendors and deploy a variety of scrapers, scripts, and other tools to develop narrative-rich data sets to address customer needs
  • Collaborate with the Sales Team to assess data sufficiency for proposed projects and help define and scope solutions for prospective customers
  • Participate in current or prospective customer meetings to explain tools, methods, insights, and actionability toward business strategy
  • Support our Product and Data Science teams with requirements, development, testing, and roll-out of new tools and technologies that address customer needs
  • Stay abreast of developments in natural language processing, machine learning, and narrative analysis

  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field or with heavy quantitative coursework
  • 1+ years experience with a top tier consultancy or professional services firm or in a data driven field such as market research, media analytics, or financial services
  • Experience supporting analytics or SaaS sales a plus
  • Passion for helping customers and solving problems (both customers’ and ours)
  • Strong data analyst skills, with an understanding of how to apply data to communications, marketing, and business strategy problems
  • Familiar with a range of data science concepts (such as natural language processing, content similarity analysis, social network analysis, and sentiment analysis)
  • Natural storyteller, with an innate understanding of how beliefs and stories shape the world we live in
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills; able to communicate complex data problems with clarity to a wide range of customers and at all levels of an organization
  • Able to work independently as well as part of a cross-functional team
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines, under pressure, with outstanding attention to detail
  • Love working in a fast-paced, start-up environment full of complexity, ambiguity and change
